The Saskatchewan Roughrider nominees for the CFL awards were announced today. This year's nominees are: Darian Durant (Most Outstanding Player), Rob Bagg (Outstanding Canadian), Gene Makowsky (Outstanding Offensive Lineman), John Chick (Outstanding Defensive Player), Jerrell Freeman (Outstanding Rookie) and Jason Armstead (Outstanding Special Teams Player).
DARIAN DURANT
MOST OUTSTANDING PLAYER
First nomination as Riders Most Outstanding Play...has completed 315 of 526 passes for 4,055 yards and 22 touchdowns...has started in all 17 regular season games this season...has also rushed 58 times for 477 yards and three touchdown...became only the fourth quarterback in Rider history to throw for over 4,000 yards in a season...last Roughrider to win the award was Kerry Joseph in 2007.
ROB BAGG
OUTSTANDING CANADIAN
First nomination as Roughriders Outstanding Canadian...has started all 17 regular season games at slotback and wide receiver...has recorded 58 receptions for 787 yards and four touchdowns...has recorded over 100-yards receiving in a game twice this season...was named CFL Canadian Player of the Week in week 16...the last Rider to win Outstanding Canadian was Ray Elgaard in 1992.
GENE MAKOWSKY
OUTSTANDING OFFENSIVE LINEMAN
Fifth nomination as Riders Outstanding Offensive Lineman...has played in all 17 regular season games...has started 14 games at tackle and three games at guard...Makowsky won this award in 2004 and 2005.
JOHN CHICK
OUTSTANDING DEFENSIVE PLAYER
First nomination as Outstanding Defensive Player...has started 15 regular season games at defensive end...has recorded 26 defensive tackles, ten quarterback sacks and two fumble recoveries this season...Chick was Riders nominee for Most Outstanding Rookie in 2007...last Roughrider to win Outstanding Defensive Player was Jearld Baylis in 1993.
JERRELL FREEMAN
OUTSTANDING ROOKIE
Has dressed in 16 regular season games this season and started one game at linebacker...leads the team with 24 special teams tackles...has also recorded 15 defensive tackles, two fumble recoveries and a blocked punt...last Roughrider to win Outstanding Rookie was Weston Dressler in 2008.
JASON ARMSTEAD
OUTSTANDING SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER (JOHN AGRO AWARD)
First nomination as Riders Special Teams Player of the Year...has dressed in nine regular season games...leads the team with 29 kickoffs for 750 yards and 38 punt returns for 353 yards...Corey Holmes won this award in 2002 and 2005.
