MONTREAL - Reviewers have praised its emphasis on fresh local ingredients and the simplicity of its cuisine.

Now, Cibo Trattoria on Seymour Street in downtown Vancouver has received another accolade: it's been named by enRoute magazine as Canada's best new restaurant.

"Simple ingredients, sublime execution," writes Chris Nuttall-Smith in the magazine's November issue.

"The kitchen, which does rustic Italian, makes much of peasant staples: beans, potatoes, fresh pastas and organ meats."

Toronto, Ottawa and the Montreal area each have two restaurants in the magazine's eighth annual top 10 list of new establishments.

The Black Hoof in Toronto, "known almost entirely for its excellent cured meats," is in second place followed by Rush in Calgary (the "local-inspired menu is smart, cosmopolitan and completely delicious") and Atelier in Ottawa ("maddeningly good").

Here's the rest of the list, in order: Murray Street, Ottawa; Cabane a sucre au pied de cochon, Saint-Benoit de Mirabel; Ship to Shore, Malpeque Bay, P.E.I.; Pizzeria Libretto, Toronto; Culina Highlands, Edmonton; and La Salle a manger, Montreal.
